Gina and Alex take on the world!

in Informative

Former Windhoek International School students, Gina Figueira and Alex Stonehouse are two young women fulfilling the International Baccalaureate mission of developing “inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.”
The 2011 graduates, who scored outstanding results in the IB Diploma Programme equaling the best students worldwide, are currently in London on a gap year.
These proactive, persevering and diligent young women didn’t wait until graduation to begin making a meaningful contribution to the world. While still in Namibia they worked as peer counselors, assisted AIDS orphans with schoolwork and cleaned buildings and cleared ground for social projects outside Windhoek.
Gina and Alex feel that the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme has prepared them for “unpredictable, real world situations.” The school nurtured their creativity and talents and helped them develop research skills and even produce 4 000 word research documents in preparation for University work.
Both ladies are grateful for their experiences at Windhoek International School and believe that the IB Diploma Programme provides young people with the confidence to find their place in the world.
